What to Look For In Wetsuit Booties
Want to keep enjoying the water even in the cold weather months? The answer is wetsuit booties. Here is a handy guide to help you choose the right type of wetsuit booties for your needs.
What time of year will you be using the booties?
Booties are available in a range of thickness and you should base your choice off the temperature of the water that you will be in. On the lower end, you can choose a simple sand sock or 1mm - 2mm bootie that will work for warmer water temps. For colder temps you can go as high as 5mm - 7mm which can get you through some of the toughest winter conditions.
What about the different styles of booties?
Warmer water booties will generally be lower cut, will slip on and off easily and sometimes even have draining holes. Since these booties are made for warmer water temps, they will not keep you as dry as thicker boots but they will protect your feet and add a little warmth. Thicker booties that are made for colder temps will usually come in a boot form and go up well over the ankle so you can easily tuck the boot into your wetsuit for full protection.
Rounded toe -vs- split toe?
This does depend on personal preference but generally speaking the rounded toe will be the warmest option since all your toes are together for better circulation of body heat. The split toe option does offer great grip though, so depending on what you need the booties for, you may want to opt for split toe if you are looking for a little extra traction.
